What does it truly mean to come home? In this message, we explore one of the most beloved parables in all of Scripture, the story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15. But rather than simply retelling a familiar story, we are invited to sit inside the crowd that first heard it, a crowd made up of the religious elite on one side and the outcasts and sinners on the other. As Jesus unfolds this parable, we discover that nearly every moment would have provoked a gasp from that audience. The audacity of a son demanding his inheritance early, the shocking willingness of a father to grant it, the humiliating descent into a pig pen, and then the most stunning moment of all, a father who abandons his dignity and runs down the road to embrace a child who had rejected him. The message challenges us to see that the father in this story is not just a character in a parable. He is a portrait of how God sees us. No matter how far we have wandered, no matter how low we have sunk, the father is scanning the horizon. And the moment he sees us turning toward home, he runs. This is not a message about earning our way back. It is a message about the relentless, undignified, breathtaking love of God that meets us exactly where we are.
